Another Friday, another installment of the Strangeways Jukebox. This time from Tom Waits:
Wow, that’s a big preview. Oh well.
This track, originally from MULE VARIATIONS in ’96, but performed on the Glitter and Doom tour in 2008 (which I almost saw, but the whole thing ended up being badly timed, unfortunately.)
Yeah, yeah. It’s not cool to like Tom Waits because he’s a big ‘ol faker and not really a hobo and all this is an act and that’s a load of garbage. He’s one of the greatest American lyricists of all time and went from unvarnished nostalgia to gimlet-eyed to creating his own worlds out of words (with the help of an army of talented backing players).
